Stats can be deceptive, yes they may be low for McGovern, but in a pure football sense Mitch is a beauty. His ability to read the ball in the air, to take strong contested marks and convert on the scoreboard is verging on elite. For a side that’s lacked avenue to goal and forward targets McGovern will instantly help out the club.

I expect the club to play him forward rather than down back as the Blues seem well stocked with young talls such as Weitering, Plowman, Marchbank leading the future stocks of the club.

From a pure fantasy sense he is yet to average over 71 in any format of the game, and despite his XFactor and talent he’s never really been relevant outside of his first season where he was priced as a rookie. At Adelaide he was getting the 3rd or 4th tall defender, at Carlton it’ll likely be the second. Added to this, I expect he’d see less ball inside forward 50 at Carlton than Adelaide so for those reasons I can’t see Gov being fantasy relevant anytime soon.
