Impact on Old Club:

The Tigers are an incredible football club and for the past few seasons not only have they been successful on the field, but they have done the right thing by their fringe players.

Oleg Markov offered fantastic depth and speed off the Tigers halfback whenever he was called upon. However, over the past few seasons, several the likes of Jayden Short and Liam Baker have moved ahead in the Tigers best team.

Additionally, Derek Eggmolesse-Smith has come on in leaps and bounds over the last year, and once Bachar Houli retires in 12 months, he’ll arguably move straight into the back six.

For Richmond, it’s just purely a loss of a handy depth player. But knowing the club’s recent history of development and drafting, they’ll back themselves in to find another flanker.

Impact on New Club:

During the trade period, the Suns recruiting team were very public about the club’s objectives. Firstly, it was to recruit some outside class and experience. They believe the inclusion of Rory Atkins should help fill that list gap nicely.

The second was to bring in some ‘run and carry’ half-back flankers to help complete their defensive unit. The inclusion of Oleg Markov should mean Jarrod Harbrow moves to just a depth player.

Markov is a high-speed runner and is more than handy ball user by foot. Gold Coast already have the distributors in Jack Bowes and Jack Lukosious, meaning that Oleg can be used to rebound out of defensive 50 and also create an outlet option by getting into space.

The trade for Markov now finalised that Suns back six. With Charlie Ballard and Sam Collins holding down the stalls and Connor Budarick on the damaging small forwards.

Fantasy Summary:

Over the journey he’s found himself priced as a cash cow and has proven to be a valuable contributor. However, based on his price point being like over $350k across the formats you really need him to leap frog his scoring by a minimum 20 points oper game.

Positively, Oleg’s been in a side that hasn’t been fantasy footy friendly, so certainly you could build a case he increases his scoring. My verdict is that he’s a pass in salary cap formats of the game, while in drafts he’s a late flying pickup on draft day at best.
