Why New Club Targeted Him:

“We’re very excited to add Adam to our list as a free agent – he fills a critical need for our team,” General Manager of Football Operations Josh Mahoney told Melbourne Media. “He’s played several different roles for the Giants, but predominantly what we’re looking for is someone who can run up and down the MCG on the wing.
“Adam is an elite runner, and at 194cm, he has the versatility to provide us with many options, either forward or back. “With 140 games experience, including the last four finals series, Adam complements the age and games profile of our list, and we think he can have an immediate impact.”

Impact on the new club:

Adam has spoken on numerous media platforms since moving to Melbourne that the Demons offer to provide him with continuity of role was of significant appeal. Tomlinson, known for his elite endurance and has played every role imaginable for GWS now has the chance to become a specialist in a position, not just a ‘generalist’ capable of playing anywhere.

The club or Adam has yet to speak out about the role in detail officially, but he’s been heavily rumoured to spend a majority of time on the wing. There he can use his frame and athletic traits to be a real link up weapon between the flanks.   A potential benefit here could be that he along with Salem and Ed Langdon, could take the majority of outside midfield roles. This could free up Angus Brayshaw and release him back inside the contest and could be a very relevant fantasy footballer for us next year.

Impact on the old club:

It’ll be minimal, GWS are stacked with young talent capable of filling out the midfield. They still are desperate to get game time into Jye Caldwell, Jackson Hately, Aiden Bonar if he stays + Tom Green who they’ll pick up as a next-generation academy player. Then throw in a returning Callan Ward, and suddenly midfield stocks are bursting at the seams.

In addition to this, the club is likely to trade for ruckman Sam Jacobs who possess the ability to ruck 80%-85% of the game meaning any ruck relief that Tomlinson did provide this year for Shane Mumford won’t be missed by the club.

Fantasy Summary:  Even though Adam posted career-best fantasy footy numbers this year, he’s a long way from being relevant in any format of the game. In his past 44 games for AFLFantasy, he’s posted seven tons, while in SuperCoach it’s just the four.

I won’t prolong this summary unnecessarily. He’s a fantastic and versatile player and will add plenty to the Demons side both on and off the field, but I have seen little up til now to suggest he’ll ever be fantasy relevant in any format or style of the game.
