Zak Butters is a Bulldog. Here’s what it does to his 2027 AFL Fantasy and SuperCoach scoring, plus Bont and Richards.
Butters, Bontempelli and Richards in one midfield. It might be the best on-ball group we’ve ever seen. For fantasy coaches, it’s a headache.
Zak’s coming off back-to-back 120+ SuperCoach seasons and a career-high 104.5 in AFL Fantasy. But he took 7% of Port’s points over the last two years. Bont and Richards each took 6.9% of the Dogs’ in 2026. Three blokes can’t all keep that share. I tell you which way I’m leaning, and why I’d rather trade in than start any of them.
I also look at who could pick up DPP (Bont MID/FWD is live, and don’t rule out Richards), what it means for the Dogs with Jordan Butts and a healthy Sam Darcy, and where Port goes from here. Jason Horne-Francis is the obvious one. The real value might be whoever lands the second and third midfield spots.
This is part of our 2026 AFL trade and free agency review series. Every time a player moves clubs, we break down what it means for the club he left, the club he joined, and your 2027 AFL Fantasy and SuperCoach AFL side. This one covers Zak Butters’ move from Port Adelaide to the Western Bulldogs, with Marcus Bontempelli, Ed Richards, Jason Horne-Francis and Connor Rozee all in the firing line. Keeper AFL coaches, the role changes here matter for you too.
