AAMI Community Series Review | Kangaroos Vs Hawks
0 0
Read Time:3 Minute, 56 Second

If you expect me (Rids) to put scores and stats into this, you have clicked on the wrong review. This review is my thoughts and opinions from watching the game. If you want stats and scores, then use google.

Tom Phillips

He had a slightly different role to what I was expecting entering this game. I thought I would see him running up and down a wing, gathering possessions at will. Instead, he was on the ball a lot. I was right, though, with the gathering possessions at will.

The important thing to remember here is that this was a Hawk midfield with no Tom Mitchell and no JOM, so I expect Phillips to find himself back out to the wing more often than not. Having said that, though, it is always good to add some strings to the bow.

He was everywhere and ran the game out well. If he played North every week, he could very well be the best forward in all formats for 2021. The kid can play and needs to be considered.

Jacob Koschitzke

Kicked a bag full of goals which is nice. Will play rd 1. Lock that in now. Th best thing about his game is he actually played on a solid defender in Corr. Finally a def rookie option has emerged! His defensive efforts in the forward line also caught the eye

Ben McEvoy

He is a serious option as a ruck 2, especially if Ceglar doesn’t get named round 1. Played plenty of ruck, then rested forward. Massive watch awaits on round 1 teams now. Damon Greaves – draft option, but this kid finds the footy. If he plays, then he will score. It is exactly what they say about life and taxes and death etc. One occurs, then the other will.

Connor Downie

Shocking hair on the kid! Sat on a wing and looked at home. He has a ready made body for AFL footy. He will debut in rd 1. Lock that in now. He is also an on field rookie option across all the formats.

Tyler Brockman

Started the game with a bang with 3 first qtr goals. Super quick and tackles which is great news. Another who will likely debut rd 1 (Clarko said as much before the game) Also has DPP so very handy.

Tom Dyson

That doesnt look right. That is right… it is Dom Tyson. Been a while since I have seen him play. He moved well and looked like the Dom Tyson who played so very well at the Melbourne footy club a few years back. This guy needs to be considered. Not sure you want 2 of Heppell and Tyson starting in your teams but Tyson did everything to be considered in this game.

Jaidyn Stephenson

He is very outside but because of his pace he outruns so many others on the field. He might actually be an ok option as a mid priced forward this year. He is a footballer. Silky smooth type. If you liked him before this game then no reason to jump off.

Jack Ziebell

Hmmmm. Just hmmmm. He is big and slow and clumsy. He also took kick ins and played the half back role we have heard so much about. The best news is he is very cheap across the formats minus AF. It will turn you grey watching him though so try and make the coin quickly and urn him into someone that is fun to watch play footy. He will impact McDonald scoring though as his teammates try to look for him (no idea why as he isnt really clean by foot).

North Rookies

Powell is fantasy. Just start him on the field. Lazarro will be a player but not right away. Phillips is a while away. Needs a few runs under his belt. Stay away even if named early. Atu still forgets to try and get the ball in a game. Lachie Young was solid enough but his hair was in a bun so it is a no for me.

Jy Simpkin

Ccan play. Sometimes forgets he has feet and handballs too many times. But I like him. Did nothing to not select him if you were already keen. I have gone a little cold but it had nothing to do with this game.

Luke Davies-Uniacke

He’s starting to look like the junior LDU. I love watching how he gets thru traffic. I would suggest he is a draft only option this year, but he may go bang and surprise!

Overall, North deserves to be a heavy favourite for the spoon. They might cop a hiding or 2 thru the year. Be wary picking too many of them.

AAMI Community Series Player Watchlist
0 0
Read Time:2 Minute, 40 Second

Footy is back! Tonight the AAMI Community Series gets underway. It’s our final chance to see players in a semi-competitive hitout before the round one lockout in a fortnight. So we asked members of the panel to list some players that are on their watchlist.

LEWY

Jy Simpkin

Ready to take the next step going into his 5th year. I will be watching closely how often kangaroos use him. Obviously, he’ll attend every centre bounce.

Tom Green

It’s no secret that he is a gun midfielder in the making, but he may not reach his full potential in a stacked giants midfield brigade. I’ll be watching for how he fits in that midfield rotation.

James Harmes

We know what he’s been able to score playing a midfield role. He moved down last year back, but a projected move back to the midfield could see him underpriced to begin the year.

Jimmy

Will Brodie

What’s his role, and just as importantly, what’s his endurance like now, and can he run out four quarters in the mids?

Marc Murphy

Will slide in just about every draft but by all accounts is playing forward this year. Keen to see if that role change is apparent and how well he moves across the ground given recent struggles.

Rookie Watch

The cupboard is looking awfully sparse atm. Can any of these kids put their hand up for round one?

Become a Patron!

Tim

Dyson Heppell

How does he look this week with a game under his belt.

Paddy Dow

Role and performance in a more meaningful matchup.

Darcy Cameron

Does he play a full game and split duties with Grundy as he did in the finals last year? Or will Grundy go back to being a sole ruck like normal to start 2021?

Rids

Jimmy Webster

What is his role? Is he best 22? Is he the Paton replacement?

Jack Higgins

Will he remain Fox’s 2021 boy?

Patrick Dangerfield

Full game? Pure mid? Hmmm?

North Melbourne

Watch the rookies. Do they look like they have a role? Is that role q replacement for someone missing?

Riley Collier-Dawkins

How quickly will he pass the former tiger as Fox’s boy?

Fox

Jack Higgins

Saints made a bid play for the effervescent Higgins, will we see the spark ignite into a flame, the kids been a Saints supporter since he was in nappies and think this could be a match made in heaven.

Alex Witherden

We all know he’s going to end up a great fantasy cog in the West Coast back half but is he going to be eased in or thrown into that role

Rylie Collier Dawkins

Over the past 2 years he’s been touted as a mixture of Dangerfield, Fyfe and Veszpremi, we’re finally going to see what he brings to the table, unfortunately was nursed last week under concussion protocol And Will Martyn do enough to get the Houli spot in Round 1.

Paddy Dow

Not even sure he’s the best Dow playing AFL footy atm. Wanting to see how he goes with an opponent or in a contested situation, not sold on the hype train but willing to watch another game

Patreon Exclusive | Rainman’s SuperCoach Team Reveal
0 0
Read Time:2 Minute, 29 Second

In 24 hours, the AAMI community series gets underway! So Rainman decided he’d provide for all Patreons an exclusive Team Reveal.

WHY IS HE IN? WHY IS HE OUT?

Patrick Dangerfield: I want to wait and see. I am worried about that groin and want to see how it plays out over the first few rounds before jumping.

Lachie Neale: I am not sure he can keep up the scoring rate last year given his high TOG and then translating that to 20 minute quarters. Will he be a top 8 Mid? Yes, but can???t start them all.

Zac Williams: Need to see him again in AAMI; what is the average difference between him and, say a Hayden young? I am not sure. If he plays more solid mid minutes and, importantly looks like there is some synergy with the other mid rotations he might come in. Some of the unique picks:

Luke McDonald: This position was Luke Ryan, but his back injury last week, although he seems fine, worried me off a little. If, and it is a big If McDonald picks up where he left off at the back end of last year, it is a role that will just bank points. The ball will be down there a bit and I can’t see Noble changing this too much.

Jack Macrae: Everybody is scared of the dogs mids, I just don???t see it. Treloar will be out for round 1, maybe longer. Macrae will play mid, potentially off to the wing, but nowhere else. He is the best scoring mid across the last 3 years, and no one is picking him. I think he is the perfect kind of unique.

Josh Kelly: Man Crush This guy just has to turn up to score SC points, is an absolute jet whos body has failed him, but I am hoping this is his year. Huge ceiling and consistency when he is on the park.

Nat Fyfe: SC royalty that is getting overlooked, with less rotations means he pushes forward and is super damaging there so best of both worlds in my eyes. Will score whether forward or through the midfield.

Tom Green: THIS KID IS A BEAST. Limited games to go off, but I think he has the perfect SC game. A cross between a young Patty Cripps and Clarry Oliver that will be a bull in that GWS midfield. At his price I like him more than Rowell for 150k less.

Question marks:

Josh Dunkley: Keen to see him run around in AAMI to see where he lines up; it may become Danger if it doesn’t???t look great, but I love his ceiling. Jordan Clark: I think he is best 22 at the cats, but I am not sure. Duncan and potentially smith out early help him make his case either on a wing or half back. I like him as a player. The question is, does Chris Scott?

Want to know what Rids AFLFantasy side looks like? Wonder no more! Here it is.

DEFENDERS

Lloyd – I don’t know how I get him if I don’t start with him. A hard year to try and plan upgrades as there is a lot of variables.

Docherty – he is value all day. Hoping the attention, he was getting last year will disappear with the arrivals of Saad and Williams.

Williams – midfield time and a new club. Hard to pass. Injury history a serious concern.

Milera – Just like Williams & Young. Right club. Right price. Adds depth to a thin backline.

Rooks pick themselves based on rd 1 teams.

MIDFIELD

Merrett – nice early draw. Captain option in the mids where reliable premiums are hard to predict.

Walsh – more inside this year = more pts

Simpkin – huge preseason and one to keep a sneaky eye on. Has put on size. He tired last year due to the hectic schedule of games and being young. Will improve again.

Sloane + Hately – bang for buck. 170ish pts for an outlay of a little over a mill.

Rooks – whatever is named rd 1 will start

RUCK

Going a little different now Preuss is injured.

ROB – will improve again with another preseason. He tries hard which I love.

Goldy – the love-hate relationship will continue in 2021. Preuss replacement. Good early draw and much cheaper than Gawn and Grundy.

Forward

Danger – could be any of the 3 D’s at this stage – Danger Dunkley Dusty. I would rather start Sidey but strapped for cash. It feels like a little building a house of sticks…

Phillips – new club and back to the wing.

Rozee – will be Rozee or Caldwell. A lot will depend on Caldwell and how he looks in the preseason game.

Hind + Cahill – def spots open at the Bombers. Both Hind and Cahill have new roles to fill those gaps.

BENCH

Rooks are rooks and it looks messy this year

UltimateFooty | Additional Positions for 2021 Revealed
0 0
Read Time:4 Minute, 55 Second

Every year UltimateFooty reveal an additional group of Dual Position players which is in extension to the changes handed down by champion data. Let’s take a look through the eleven additional players and their relevance to your UltimateFooty Drafts.

ADD BACK

Tom McCartin (Sydney Swans – Forward) Add Back

Young key position players regardless of which end of the ground they play aren’t great scorers. So if for whatever reason you picked Tom McCartin don’t expect much.

He’s developing nicely as a versatile swingman for the Swans, and with the drafting of Logan McDonald, we believe he’s likely to stay down back for the foreseeable. But he’s a better footballer than fantasy option right now

Chris Mayne (Collingwood – Centre) Add Back

You won’t want to be the one that picks him on draft day. But given Chris Maybe has shown over the past few seasons a tendency to deliver some solid scoring he’ll still likely get selected on draft day.

It won’t be pretty, you will get mocked, but it’s a solid depth option depending on league sizes.

Harry Perryman (GWS Giants – Centre) Add Back

For the second season running the gang at UltimateFooty have awarded back status to Harry Perryman. The inclusion of back status takes him from the potentially undrafted position, not now a viable selection.

Based on last seasons averages, he’s ranked inside the top 25 backs and should see a dump on his average draft position.

James Aish (Fremantle – Centre) Add Back

Like Perryman above, James Aish moves out of draft day purgatory as a centre, to now being a likely draft day target, all be it later in drafts.

He missed just one game last season at his new club, and even with the shorter quarters Aish still had multiple handy games. Remember ’80 was the new 100′ in 2020. And last year he had three scores over 80 with a further three 70+.

If he can maintain those scoring ratios and convert them into full length quarter returns, he could provide some handy depth despite his likely draft selection as a bench option.

There’s alot of ‘IF’s, but be honest, that’s what most late round draft flyers are… IF picks.

Adam Kennedy (GWS Giants – Centre) Add Back

If your league is this deep that you need to consider drafting a bloke who’s only had one season averaging over 65, then you might need to reconsider some life choices.

Adam Kennedy has shown that with the right matchup, he can pop the odd 80+ score. However, finding those scores are rare. Best to look elsewhere.

Jackson Hately (Adelaide Crows – Centre) Add Back

The addition of Hately is arguably the biggest potential inclusion and might even be the biggest surprise for some. At his former side GWS, Hately struggled for midfield time, and according to the gang at UltimateFooty he’s spent enough time there

For many across the UltimateFooty community this might surprise. But cast your mind back to 2020, many were pitching for him to gain back status midseason in the round 9 update.

His addition now will see him rocket up coaches back tiers and given his forecasted midfield role with Adelaide, he looks like becoming a popular breakout candidate now in our backline.

If everything falls his way, the coach that gets him on the draft day should get a great scoring return based on draft position.

Keeper and Dynasty leagues are even happier, Hately’s value just skyrocketed in 2021!

We wrote about Jackson Hately earlier in the preseason for our 50 Most Relevant series. Click Here to read and listen to the article.

ADD FORWARD

Paddy Ryder (St Kilda – Ruck) Add Forward

No surprises here with this selection. Alongside Rowan Marshall, the former Bomber and Power bigman has split his time across the ruck and forward line at St Kilda. The DPP is not much more than squad versatility unless you have customised category scoring on. In this case, then he opens up another scoring forward with his hitouts.

The biggest benefit will be if injuries strikes teammate Rowan Marshall and he’s forced to carry the ruck load solo.

ADD RUCK

UltimateFooty considered anyone who was a second ruckman amassing 5-10 hitouts regularly. Rather than a player by player comment, we thought we’d make a generic comment about all of the new ruck eligible selections.

None of these inclusions should be pushing for an R1 spot in your side. However, if your draft teams require two on-field rucks, then these inclusions will add significant value to you. For shallower leagues, they provide added flexibility on as a bench option.

Darcy Cameron (Collingwood – Forward) Add Ruck

Oscar Allen (West Coast Eagles – Forward) Add Ruck

Levi Casboult (Carlton – Forward) Add Ruck

Luke Jackson (Melbourne – Forward) Add Ruck

Patreon Exclusive | Rids DreamTeam Reveal
0 0
Read Time:2 Minute, 24 Second

Last year Rids was the overall winner of DreamTeam fort 2020. Wanna see what the first plans of his side look like for this season? He’s sharing it exclusively here for Patreons and with some explanations behind certain picks.

Defenders

Lloyd and Whitfield speak for themselves. Safe, top six defenders barring injury. Alex Witherden – will be monitored closely over the preseason but with Hurn getting older and with the space of the new home ground, this move says top 5 defender if being traded is the kick in the arse I think it will be.

Midfield

Some familiar faces at the top of this line. While Sloane and Heppell are crazy value, both have averaged 100+ before.

No Rowell might surprise some – but too many questions for me. I love the kid, but he is no contact training till post Christmas. We have seen the game’s time and stars do require shoulder reco operation not coming back as they left. There is also the question around how he fits with a Greenwood who found his feet post Rowell injury. Throw in the added attention that will likely to be coming his way.

Bye round is also very awkward. If he doesn’t start well, then you need to back him in for the season. I hope I am wrong with this. I always think if there are too many questions with someone so highly owned, then the best POD might not be owning him. Atkins – crazy price in DT. Will get games at the Suns—a perfect stepping stone.

Rucks

Gawn – less question around him than Grundy for me. Just feel Gawn is likely not to be as affected by teammates as Grundy will be.

Forwards

Sidebottom – bye, round suits me. Plus the guy is durable and proven. I feel the high price tag will mean he is unique.

Caldwell fits in perfectly at f5 for this team. He will get plenty of opportunity at Ess so, for now, will be a watch. If a Buddy or a Ziebell get through the preseason, then he makes way for one of those. Caldwell though options up the strategic options with his bye round. I think a kid like Rozee or Butters breaks out this year.

If Caldwell limps to his bye, then a sideways trade is available then. Too many times people carry on about season long keepers and top 10 etc., and they miss the point that 5 points a game should not be the deciding factor whether someone stays for the season or not.

If Caldwell is averaging 85, that is well and truly good enough to be the f6 for the remainder of the season in a completed team. Just the bye rd worries me as I also have Danger and Phillips. Tom Phillips – everything says this trade will see him go back to his 90 days.

Redrafting the 2010 AFL Draft

2010 was an important draft for the Gold Coast Suns. The new club had eight first-round selections and for the most part, did a reasonable job, but could things have gone better in their foundational draft?
